3rd Edition of the Solar Energy Exhibition in Fatick (From 26 to 28 November 2020)

The option taken by the Government of Senegal is to make the renewable energy sub-sector one of the main alternatives for making a significant contribution to improving the energy supply in a sustainable manner.

Taking into account this political will and all the issues at stake, the Regional Development Agency (PREDA) of Fatick has developed a solid partnership with the NGO Initiative Développement (ID) for the implementation of the Renewable Energy Development Programme (PRODER) in the framework of its
decentralised cooperation between the New Aquitaine Region in France and the Fatick
Fatick-Diourbel in Senegal.

The growing demand for electrification and the diversification of the supply of solar equipment and companies in Senegal can stimulate new jobs and Income Generating Activities (IGA). Unfortunately, despite the many interventions of development actors, the supply of services and products related to the solar sector in particular remains limited in the regions, especially those of Fatick and Diourbel.

It is in this context that in 2018, PRODER, in partnership with the programme Réussir au Sénégal (GIZ) and the NGO Energy 4 Impact (E4I) organised the first edition of the Solar Energy Fair in the region of Fatick. The event was a great success in terms of participation, networking between programmes, companies, entrepreneurs, women’s groups and local populations. In 2019, on the strength of this success, the Fatick Regional Development Agency decided to expand the scope of the event to include the interdepartmental agreement between the Fatick and Diourbel regions.

Following the first two editions, PRODER noted several direct positive impacts. As proof, among the companies that participated in the last edition of the fair, 90% of them won a contract in the Fatick Region, 50% in the Diourbel Region and 50% in the two Regions
